Creation Story Episode 3
In the Book of Genesis in the Bible, God creates the heavens, the earth, and all living things. As the pinnacle of his creation, God forms the first man, Adam, from the dust of the ground and breathes life into him.
God then creates the first woman, Eve, from Adam’s rib, as a companion for him. God places Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, a beautiful and bountiful paradise, and instructs them to care for the garden.
However, God also warns Adam and Eve not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, saying that if they do, they will surely die. The serpent tempts Eve to eat the forbidden fruit, and she in turn convinces Adam to also partake.
After Adam and Eve disobey God’s command, they become aware of their nakedness and try to hide from God. God confronts them and delivers punishments – Adam and Eve are expelled from the Garden of Eden and must now work the land and experience pain, suffering, and death.
The story of Adam and Eve represents the introduction of sin and mortality into the world. It explains the human condition of struggling against the difficulties of life outside the perfect state of the Garden. The narrative has been influential in Judeo-Christian theology and worldviews.
