– God relents from the disaster He planned to bring on the people.
3. Moses Comes Down from the Mountain
– Moses comes down from the mountain with the two tablets of the testimony in his hands.
– When he sees the people worshiping the golden calf, he becomes angry and throws down the tablets, breaking them.
– Moses destroys the golden calf, grinds it to powder, scatters it on the water, and makes the people drink it.
4. The Levites’ Action and Moses’ Plea
– Moses calls for those who are on the Lord’s side to come to him, and the Levites gather around him.
– The Levites are commanded to go through the camp and kill their relatives, friends, and neighbors who had sinned.
– Moses pleads with the Lord to forgive the people’s sin or blot him out of God’s book.
5. The Lord’s Punishment and Promise
– The Lord sends a plague on the people as punishment for their sin.
– The Lord also promises to send an angel to lead the people to the promised land, but He will not go with them Himself.
